  • Received his bachelor's degree from Haverford College in Pennsylvania and his medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine, Gainesville.
  • Completed an Anatomic Pathology residency at Harvard Medical School, Boston, as well as a Clinical Pathology residency at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota
  • Also performed a Surgical Pathology fellowship at the Mayo Clinic

  • Dr. Travis is an Honorary Pulmonary Fellow from the Mayo Clinic Departments of Thoracic Medicine and Surgery
  • Received the Mary J. Matthews Award for Excellence in Research of Lung Cancer Pathology from the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer
  • Served as Chair of the 1999 WHO Classification of Lung and Pleural Tumors, as well as lead editor of the 2004 WHO Classification: Pathology and Genetics of Tumors of the Lung, Pleura, Thymus and Heart
  • Served as co-chair of the 2002 American Thoracic Society (ATS) and European Respiratory Society (ERS) International Multidisciplinary Consensus Classification of Idiopathic Interstitial Pneumonias (IIPs)
  • Co-chair of the ATS Workshop on Nonspecific Interstitial Pneumonia
  • Co-chair of the Pathology/Radiology Panel of the 2004 ASCO/IASLC Adenocarcinoma/Bronchioloalveolar Carcinoma Workshop
  • Served as co-chair of the 2011 IASLC/ATS/ERS International Multidisciplinary Classification of Lung Adenocarcinoma
  • Co-chair of the ATS/ERS Revision of the International Multidisciplinary Consensus Classification of IIPs
  • Widely published in a number of peer-reviewed journals and publications, such as the American Journal of Surgical Pathology, Human Pathology, Modern Pathology, American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine and Journal of Clinical Oncology.
