Sylvia L. Asa [M.D., Ph.D.]

  • Titles : Consultant in Endocrine Pathology
  • Affiliations : Case Western Reserve University

  • Graduated from the University of Toronto with her MD, did a Residency in Pathology  and subsequently a PhD, all at the University of Toronto 
  • Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, Fellow of the College of American Pathologists, and Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists
  • A Clinician-Scientist with a focus on Endocrine Pathology, her research aims to identify the basis for development of endocrine tumors, to improve diagnostic tests and to identify targets for therapy of those diseases.  
  • She has published more than 400 scientific articles, written five books, co-edited five books and contributed over 100 book chapters on endocrine pathology. 
  • She has given over 200 invited lectures to national and international scientific audiences.  
  • Dr. Asa has served as President of the Endocrine Pathology Society (1997–1998) and the US-Canadian Academy of Pathology (2005-6), she has served on numerous editorial boards, and she has received many awards from national and international scientific and other organizations for her contributions to science and medicine.   • Dr Asa loves to cook, travel and shop!  She is an exercise devotee who runs almost every day and she swims as often as she can.

  • Dr. Asa has 4 children ranging in age from 18 to 34 years – all are happy and successfully pursuing careers, two are married and one just had a baby!
