Raul S. Gonzalez [M.D.]

Dr. Gonzalez is Professor of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine and Director of the Gastrointestinal Pathology Service at Emory University Hospital. He received his MD from the Medical College of Georgia and completed AP/CP residency training at Emory University, followed by fellowships in surgical and gastrointestinal pathology at Vanderbilt University.

Dr. Gonzalez has authored more than 140 peer-reviewed publications and a textbook on liver pathology, as well as chapters for several other textbooks and numerous topics on Pathology Outlines, where he previously served as Editor in Chief. He has lectured nationally and internationally, including at USCAP and CAP annual meetings, and has given several lectures on the pathCast platform. He served as Chair of the CAP Surgical Pathology Committee (term ending 2026) and has participated in multiple dataset authoring committes for the International Collaboration on Cancer Reporting. He is currently President-Elect of the Rodger C. Haggitt Gastrointestinal Pathology Society, Chair of the Social Media Subcommittee for the International Academy of Pathology, and a Regional Editor for Histopathology. Dr. Gonzalez has received residency teaching awards from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Emory, and in 2023, he received the Gastrointestinal Pathology Society's Jack Yardley Investigator Award.
